Shielding Domestic Birds

Yesterday I read an article about the protecting around our home against the bird flu. Keepers have been advised to keep our birds away from wild birds.

Other useful advices about the prevention. ( How can we protect our domestic animals.)
• Keep cats away from birds on indoors
• Avoid stray cats
• Use gloves to put dead birds in bags
• Wash hands frequently

Last but not least the bird flu is a „notifiable” disease which means farmers are obliged by law to report infected birds.

About the bird flu:

Avian influenza virus usually refers to influenza A viruses found chiefly in birds, but infections can occur in humans. The risk is generally low to most people, because the viruses do not usually infect humans. However, confirmed cases of human infection have been reported since 1997.
