This is an interesting
science-fiction novel by Michael Crichton about a team of scientists
who investigate a deadly disease of extraterrestrial origin which
causes rapid, fatal clotting of the blood.
The story starts than a satellite fall into Piedmont in Arizona. A
mysterious virus kills 48 people, but two humans survive that. The
scientists take the satellite into a laboratory, in order to study
it. But the virus has realised. The experts want to wipe out it by a
nuclear explosion.
Fortunately, Mark Hall can stop it before it can detonate.
There are four main characters int he novel:
DR. JEREMY STONE: professor of bacteriology at Berkeley; a nobel
prize winner
BURTON: pathologist
PETER LEAVITT: anthropologist
DR. MARK HALL: surgeon
In fact I reflected very much about its contents both scientific and
humanistic because this subject is quite contemporary, even if this
book was written in the ‘50s.
In conclusion, Michael Crichton is an excellent author, after the
Jurassic Park, he could write another exciting story. It has many
interesting turns and unexpected events. Don’t miss it!
