CHAPTER 5

CHARACTERS:

Lenina, Henry, Bernard, Morgana, and other solidarity service people.

SHORT REPORT:

The chapter is divided in two parts. One describing Lenina and Henry's adventure. The second speaks about Bernard solidarityservice day.The first reports a nice night of two well-integrated alpha people.Lenina and Henry go out to spend a nice night together and in respect to their conditioning they have it!! They can be happy!....The other part is a bad-every-fifteen-day night of a not well-integrated man. Bernard isn't just like the other characters.. He has many problems to be happy.. Also for a night. His entertainment happens with a social service.. objectively it isn't very nice.... and he is conscious of that.

THEMES PRESENTED :

one, Ford's age entertainments: sex and drugs party (there isn't any rock'n’roll but synthetic music.....) very similar to ours, and considering all, also to Huxley’s period. In a certain sense (I think) our culture never changes in this sense, I mean what we like and without that... what shall we do without that? After there is the terrifying song which Lenina and Henry listen to: I agree with Aldous Huxley to think that our children or grandchildren or some further generation risk to listen to something of that kind really. In this chapter there is a good description of Bernard uneasiness, his bad mood, his grief, that is a little light in the dark of all-happy-men-world (and not in the romantic sense of the dark).

SOME RELEVANT QUOTATIONS:

'Yes, everybody's happy now'The warm, the richly coloured, the infinitely friendly world of soma-holiday.Bottle of mine ,it's you I've  always wanted!Bottle of mine, why was I ever decanted?Feel how the Grated Being comes!'I hear him''He's coming' 'Oh, oh, oh' 'Orgy porgy gives release.

OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE STYLE:

I've only a few words about the style. In part I notice some irony and in the other hand his cold style description of places, actions and situations, considered as normal.... And perhaps so they are.

WHAT THE CHAPTER REPRESENTS IN THE WHOLE STORY:

The plot in this part is without relevant events or turning point. This chapter is formed by exemplar descriptions of the social situation in the new world and also the particular situation of Bernard.

PERSONAL COMMENTS:

I like very much this chapter. It seems to say: hey, you,  Henry, Lenina, Morgana, or even you president of social service, don't laugh reading this, about these people, don't feel them so far... Think about it. Don't you know any Lenina, Henry, Morgana, or anyone, among your friends, relations....Brave New World is at the door... are you ready or do you want to wake up?????
