I
often ask myself what life of
future generations will be like; I mean for fellows who
will live in our cities in 2072. After reading Huxley’s book I
think that men will live their life in a way that we can’t
imagine. About future there are many things that either frighten
me or that make me enthusiastic, but I can’t avoid to giving an
answer to all the questions that everyday I ask myself. All of us
take in consideration the word “future” more times a day;
thanks to technology, to the genetics, to the Internet and to the
development of science, our life is already facilitated enough.
Our generation is a generation of lucky persons, for example all
can have children because exists the artificial insemination. So
we ask ourselves: what more ingenious will be there to have sons
in the future? We don’t think of the way to make cloning
otherwise in 2072, will all be beautiful like Leonardo Di Caprio
and Pamela Anderson? Within some years manual works will disappear
to let place to technology and more and more sophisticated
machines that will work for men; the petrol pump attendants, to
earn money, will have to distribute jets of energy instead of
petrol, so will run energetic pumps. If today the Internet helps
us to work from our house, to meet new friends, to consult a
doctor, to do recurring expenses, in a very far future we will use
the computer also for a simple chatter. Thanks to technology,
there will be less people with back-ache, but children won’t go
to school with the knapsack, with pens and with books, but with a
portable computer. Travelling for the future generations will be
as easy as a game: cars will have a computer, spies that lighten
at the least mistake, seats with all comforts and television on
board for the last news. If there are too many risks to robotize
man, at the same time it will to get rid of bad illnesses; AIDS
will be cured with simple pills without to get medical attendance.
Medical operations will be executed all by laser driven by
computers. To eat we will have food in pills on the shelves of
supermarkets, pills if put in oven or in a frying-pan will become
a big pizza, a chicken, a salmon or an apple pie, etc…In a drink
there will be all proteins and vitamins that are needed to feed a
sportsman who, simply by eating some biscuits, will assume
automatically creatine. To have big muscles these foods some hours
of exercise at a gymnasium will be enough because sports of the
future will be less fatiguing and in a few hours will transform
the physique of boys. For reading we will not need glasses, we
will only have to open a book and listen to the voice recorded in
it; also talking will become an optional because we will chat
wherever and with whoever. In 2072 we will use clothes that will
be sewn with textile that will change colour according to the
temperature; our shoes will have changeable pieces to be used in
different occasions, and to be in fashion we will be able to
change the look of our hair in 10 minutes with a cream used at
home with a simple soap. Babies will have got a super developed
intelligence and will already talk since the first months because
milk of their mums will contain substances with a lot of vitamins.
I believe that many of us are also afraid of such a future as that
just described, because there will not be any more space for
one’s own thoughts, for sentiments and for one’s own emotions.
