Roald Dahl

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Chapter  1

Settings : Charlie’s house

Characters: Grandpa Joe, Grandma Josephine, Grandpa Gorge, Grandma Georgina, Mr & Mrs Bucket, Charlie

Summary: In this chapter, there is the description of Charlie’s life. Little Charlie lives in a poor house with his poor family. He doesn’t have any brother or sister, in fact his family is composed of Mr & Mrs Bucket (father and mother), and his grandparents.
Charlie’s father works in a toothpaste factory, but Mr Bucket is the only person in the family with a job!!!
Charlie is very greedy of chocolate but he can’t buy it…..because he is very poor!!!!!
When Charlie goes to school he sees the chocolate-shop, but he can a buy chocolate bar, only on his birthday. The secret dream of Charlie is to go and visit the “CHOCOLATE FACTORY”
of Mr. Willy Wonka, and, eat all kinds of chocolate.

Personal comments: I think that Charlie is a very singular person, he is an unhappy children because his life is very unfortunate. He lives in his home with his Grandparents and his parents!

Relevant quotation: The sentence that we prefer is: “Mr Bucket was the only person in the family with a job” because Mr Bucket is the only person that works, therefore, the family is very poor!

Chapter  2

Settings : Charlie’s house

Characters: Charlie, Grandpa Joe, Willy Wonka….

Summary: in this chapter grandpa Joe tells Charlie about the life of Mr Wonka. He is a magic man, because he makes very particular sweets! He is the master of the Chocolate factory, where Mr Wonka creates marshmallows that taste of violets, and rich sweets that change colour every ten seconds as you suck them, and little feathery sweets that smell aways deliciously the in the moment you put them between your lips.
This is a magic factory and grandpa Joe tells the story to Charlie

Personal comments: I think that this chapter is fantastic, because it describes the story of the factory and the life of Mr Wonka, and I like it because it is told by grandpa Joe!

Relevant quotations: “Is it really true that Wonka's Chocolate Factory is the biggest in the world’?” This is the sentence that we have chosen in this chapter because grandpa Joe tells Charlie the story of this important factory….and Charlie is stunned at the story.
