Roald Dahl

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Chapter  25

Settings: these people were in the chocolate factory, in the great glass lift.

Characters: Mr Teavee, Mrs Teavee, Mike Teavee, Grandpa Joe, Mr Wonka, Charlie Bucket.

Summary: These people were in the chocolate factory and Mike was tired, so Mr Wonka decided to take  the lift. In the lift there were thousands of buttons everywhere! The buttons were on the walls and on the ceiling. Charlie noticed that every single button had a tiny printed label beside it telling you which room you would be taken to if you pressed it.” The whole lift was made

of thick glass so they could see out. Mike chose and pressed a button and the lift “rushed on at the speed of a rocket”. Then the lift’s door slid open. The button that Mike had pressed was that of the testing room.

Personal comments: this chapter is very funny! Think of the lift that rushed on at the speed of a rocket! The description of the lift is particular and we can imagine the thousand buttons with the tiny printed labels and we can see with our imagination the rooms out of the lift.

Relevant quotations: “My feet are getting tired”, said Mike Teavee,” I want to watch television”.

This sentence is very important because if Mike wasn’t tired, all the visitors wouldn’t take the lift, and the adventure wouldn’t start.

   Chapter 26

Settings: the testing room.

Characters: Mr Teavee, Mrs Teavee, Mike Teavee, Grandpa Joe, Mr Wonka, Charlie Bucket

Summary: the people arrived in a white room. “Huge lamps hung down and bathed the room in a brilliant blue white light..." There was an enormous black camera on wheels, and Oompa- Loompas groups were wearing protection-suits, complete with helmets and goggles. Mr Wonka cried that they were in the testing room for his last invention...the television chocolate! With this invention the bar of chocolate went from the room into the television, and the people that were watching TV could take and eat it.

Personal comments: I like this chapter because it speaks about the invention of
the television chocolate. If the people all over the world could have a
television like that, I think that nobody would go out, but every one would stay at home and always watch television: day and night!

Relevant quotations: “Terrific!” cried Grandpa Joe. “It will change the world!” I think that the sentence of Grandpa Joe is true, because I would like one television as that. Would be very beautiful watching TV, took the bars of chocolate from it and eating them! Yes, an invention as that will change the world!
