Project's diary (2005 - 2006)

"The World in a Book" diary

June 2006: Seven Websites are online. The collaborations  have been different in time and methods, but all the hypertexts created on the literary works read, analysed and discussed are the result of the contributions offered in terms of messages, presentations, writings, drawings by the students who have taken part in this project. The project's Website is the "place" that contains all the materials produced by the students and is the explicit form of this collaboration. Behind the books' websites there are hundreds of forum messages and emails from both students and teachers, sometimes chats and videoconferences. Interaction has been the heart of the project.

Any problems? A lot, of course: the forums have not worked properly for many weeks; some classes could not respect the time schedule they had devised with their partners at the beginning of the year because of the things they had to do in their schools; some partners have completed only some steps of the project; and then ...strikes, holidays, exams.....

The point is that the project has come to its due completion with a lot of original work created by the students of 16 schools from 9 countries who have worked together by using the potentials of the computers as means of communication.

May 2006: The Andromeda Strain: A lot of writings and images have come to the coordinator both from the Hungarian and the Italian students. All of them have been linked to the working area so that all the participants could read and comment them.

The Canterville Ghost - Last messages on the teachers' forum concerning the last step of the project. Unfortunately the Chinese students haven't taken part in the last part of the collaboration, but their comments and ideas posted on the forum have been useful as well to build the texts of the final Website.

Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde - A message from the coordinator to the three teachers:

Hi everybody!!!

Hi friends!!! I see you are working hard and...I hope I will be able to do my best to complete our website in time. I have received a wonderful drawing from Geeta created by a students of hers. I have already used it in one of the pages that will form the final website of your book. Please send me all the works by your students as soon as you can......

Love

Daniela

Love songs - The Italian students have written four lyrics for new songs. The Chinese students will see them on the project's Website. Some students are keeping in touch with their Chinese friends via email.

April 2006: The Andromeda Strain: messages between the teachers to organize the work of the last steps. Messages from the sudents.

The Canterville Ghost - Holidays and....work.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Italian students have developed the points listed in the proposal of March, unfortunately the other two classes could nor take part in this final step. Anyway the works produced by the Italian students is the result of the contributions of the three schools expressed in the 157 messages posted in the forum discusson's areas.

Italy-Israel - The students have posted their answers on the forums. See The Italian forum and the Israeli forum.

Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde - Problems with the forum have interrupted the fruitful exchange. Now it seems that things are better.

The Canterville Ghost - The working groups are formed by the Italian and French students.

The Israeli students have written three dilemma questions inspired by the story "Shoes" by Etgar Keret and the Italian students have written three dilemma questions inspired by the story "When you realize" (Quando si comprende) by Luigi Pirandello. Now they will answer them and will post their messages on their forums.

February 2006: The book "Congo" has been changed with "Andromeda Strain" by Michael Crichton.

Canterville Ghost - the students are completing their reading and preparing the list of topics to develop in the last steps of the project.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the students have almost finished reading the book and they are about to begin the book analysis. In the meantime they are writing their comments about the chapters they have read on the forum's discussion areas.

Italy-Israel - the Italian class is building up the site, that will deal Pirandello's life, historical background, Pirandello and humour, along with some specific topics about "Quando Si Comprende". Messages on the forum from the students.

Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde - The forum now has a wide variety of discussion areas , some of them containing many messages. The teachers are working on how to organize the future activities and discussions on the forum. Quite low the present activity but still alive because of the past holiday.

Love songs - The Italian students have completed the new presentations of the second group of songs .
